Vision Statement and Goals

Vision Statement and Goals

In our Diversity Growth Plan document, there is a clear delineation of our vision.

It is three-fold:

  • to raise community awareness of Unitarian Universalism by inviting our neighbors and sharing with them the good news of the Unitarian Universalist faith
  • to gain and welcome new members because we have a message to share that lifts people up
  • to strengthen the community within by creating dynamic programs and opportunities for spiritual growth

To live by our faith is to truly see the inherent worth and dignity in all and help them see it in themselves and others, too.   If we’re sharing this message well, more people will come – people from all races, ages, classes and genders.  We will grow in racial diversity; and we will grow as people.

Our mission then, is to include our new and old members in five areas of growth to ensure our viability and visibility in our community, to better reflect our community, to plan for our future, and to practice the seven principles of our faith.  The minister will lead us in the following areas:

Newcomer Growth & Development

  • Implement minister-led new-comer programs for members
  • Implement new and vibrant outreach initiatives
  • Assist new-comers in linking to existing people, programs and activities
  • Empower newcomers for church leadership

Community Within

  • Develop personal and mutually-supportive relationships (minister/members)
  • Visit our people in need
  • Minister to our youth and young adults
  • Foster open and affirming ministries

Adult Religious Education

  • Implement minister-led adult religious education programs and activities
  • Create dynamic youth and young adult programs
  • Develop small-group ministries, e.g. self-help groups, covenant groups
  • Develop impactful lay leadership

Social Action

  • Work with local UU colleagues to address social justice issues
  • Reestablish Davies’ presence in the community as an agent for social justice
  • Launch mentorship programs with local schools and organizations
  • Establish leadership for Davies to become a welcoming congregation

Planning for the Future

  • Develop plans for accommodating our growth
  • Further expand our effervescent ministries
  • Become a teaching congregation
  • Share our success with other UU congregations

To accomplish these far-reaching goals, full-time ministry will be essential.
