Davies
Memorial Unitarian Universalist Church has devised a fulfilling program
of social and cultural activities to stimulate the mind and spirit, and
-- to heck with it -- to have a good time! Check our calendar
for dates and side links for more opportunities.
DINING OUT has become a very popular Adult
Program activity. Once a month we select one of the Washington area's
more interesting restaurants for a shared meal. Notice we said
interesting, not necessarily expensive. So if your taste runs from Thai
to Mexican, Afghan to plain old down home American, you can indulge your
palate and your spirit of adventure.
MOVIES AND MUNCHIES For a quieter,
more intimate social encounter, we feature monthly get-togethers at church
members' homes. Friends get together to shoot the breeze. Movies and Munchies
includes enjoying a movie together that is usually not easily found at
the local video store, which is occasionally followed by a discussion
and other times just more socializing.
BIOGRAPHY BOOK CLUB meeting to discuss a selected
biography.
OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES An outdoor activity (hike,
bike ride, etc) is often scheduled for members to get together and enjoy
nature.
DAVIES NIGHT OUT AT THE THEATER We arrange
group tickets to local live theatre productions -- professional, semi-professional
and amateur. We attempt to keep ticket prices down through bulk purchases
and matinees where possible.
WOMEN'S CIRCLE The circle has continued to
meet regularly for years, and we'd like to share it with others. We invite
any interested women to visit us. No commitment except to give it a try.
Then if you decide to continue, we expect you to attend as regularly as
you can. We generally meet every 2 weeks, usually on the 1st and 3rd Fri.,
in one anothers' homes. For more information or a better "feel" of the
group, talk with Ros Winard, Anita Parins, Janet Murphy, or Joyce Dowling.
Here's a story about "Just what goes on at
Women's Circle anyway?" This group is a Small
Group Ministry and we now have several more - see this page.
PARLOR CHATS are conversations on a particular
subject (to be announced) held every other third Sat. at member homes.
Children may be able to come and play/watch videos in adjacent room; please
call host in advance if you're interested in having your children attend.
CHOIR. An opportunities for you to share
your talents.
CAFÉ FLORIAN --- the Crown
Jewel in Davies' Adult Programs is a monthly coffee house entertainment
extravaganza with open mic. Performing on the Cafe Florian stage
we've had everyone from church members telling jokes to locally-well-known
singers and musicians -- some of whom have gone on to sign major record
deals. So do you play a banjo? Do you sing elsewhere besides the shower?
Do you have a comedy routine you've been working on? Step up to the mike.
Who knows -- "It Could Be The Start Of Something Big!"
Please
check the Adult Programs bulletin board in the church lounge, the nUUsletter,
and the Order of Service, for further information about upcoming
events. Check the hall bulletin board and the literature rack for
information about other Washington area UU activities.
For more information about the above programs, email
your questions at least a couple days before the event or reservation
deadline.
