BOOK SUMMARY:

There is so much in these 198 pages! In the first 65 pages, Crestwell, as a good UU, challenges traditional Christianity with his understanding of God, nature and reality! He tells you things you'll never hear preached in a Protestant church! In the spirit of Joseph Campbell, John confronts the major tenets of the Christian faith and shows that much of what Christians believe is based in mythology. The author writes that peace will never manifest until we raise our level of consciousness and allow God's spirit to permeate every aspect of our existence. Crestwell is authentic in saying that "some of the things cherished and revered religiously may not be, historically and factually, what we think they are," and systematically proves his thesis. The author tackles difficult questions with refreshing insights and shows us his deep and sincere faith, and love for humanity.

In the second part of his book, John has included ancient texts that have been left out of the Holy Bible, including the Gospel of Thomas, where he adds commentaries that will stir you emotionally! He also has included his "Letter to the Black Church in America...from the mouth of the Prophet Martin L. King, Jr. and pen of the Scribe..," sharing with us what King might be saying to African-Americans and all others today. Additionally, the author shares with us a moving essay from William Whipper, a 19th century Abolitionist titled, "An Address on Non-resistance to Offensive Aggression," which gives us an alternative to our present political environment.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

John Thomas Crestwell, Jr., a lover of philosophical and theological dialogue, is an entrepreneur and president of JC Marketing & Communications, where he is a consultant to a national faith-based publishing company in Dallas, Texas. John holds a BA in Mass Media from Hampton University, a Master of Theological Studies from Wesley Theological Seminary, and is working on a PhD in Theology and Apologetics. He plans to spend the rest of his life writing and speaking for marginalized and oppressed people across the world. He resides, with his family, in the Washington, DC area.

REVIEWS:

Dr. Ronald P. Patterson, CEO/Publisher, United Methodist Reporter Communications, Dallas, Texas

--- "Crestwell goes against the grain by asking us to find deeper meaning in our existence, so that we might begin to create an environment in our world conducive for peace. His assertion that much of what we believe religiously is based in mythology, is provocative and bold, to say the least. The style and structure of this work make it an easy read. Crestwell's knowledge and reasoning are rational. I think our world has a need and place for this sort of dissertation."

Art Franklin, Anchor, WBRC-TV, Birmingham, Alabama

---"A new leader emerges! Crestwell's book challenges us to question the very foundation on which we have based our lives. He provides a new basis for faith and belief. He is engaging, critical, thought provoking and idealistic fresh. It's a must read for people of all faiths, spiritual and non-spiritual."

Brian Custer, Anchor, KTVT-TV, Fort Worth, Texas

---"Crestwell is authentic. He provides us with real solutions for world peace."
