INTRODUCTION |
| As
Unitarian Universalists, we believe that the process of religious
education (different from traditional Sunday school) is a lifelong
quest to answer fundamental questions asked by all people: |
- Why am I here?
- How should I conduct my life?
- What is right or wrong?
|
We do not offer easy, set answers to these questions. Instead, we will help you guide your child in beginning his or her search for truth, value, and spirituality within a Unitarian Universalist context.
Children and youth are invited to join their families for the first
15 or 20 minutes of the worship service each week at 10:30 AM, and then
go to their classrooms with our volunteer teachers. The Nursery is staffed
from 10:30 for infants or toddlers who have difficulty sitting quietly
in the service. Each class is age-appropriate and fun! This year, all
classes are learning about Promoting
Peace by gaining awareness of and respect for Major World Religions
of the World! |
OUR MISSION
The purpose of the Davies Memorial Unitarian Universalist Church Religious Education Program is to provide a religious and moral environment in which to encourage development of personal beliefs and values, acceptance of self and others, and a sense of belonging to the church community. The Religious Education Committee has developed the following goals for the children participating in the program: |
- develop respect for one's self, others and divergent ideas
- become responsible for one's self
- identify themselves as members of the Unitarian Universalist religion
- become aware of other religions
- recognize they have the support of a caring church community and that they are a force for justice and love in this community and the larger world community.
We are also concerned with safety by having volunteers working in pairs, providing
training, and having windows in each classroom to the hall which is
monitored.

The Travelers (1st-4th Graders)
Superheroes - Bible People and A
World of New Friends will be the basis for our classes. These curricula introduce children to the
stories of people from the Bible who acted with courage and wisdom,
and to show how their lives confirm the principles that we, as
Unitarian Universalists, strive to promote and introduce the eight
largest world religions, using a thematic approach to world
religions and a center-based teaching format
that uses multiple intelligence learning. . back

Youth (8th-12th Graders)
Our program is designed to empower
our youth to become responsible young adults by respecting them,
listening to their ideas, and encouraging them to embrace the challenges
of life. Various resources may be used by the teacher, but the sessions
are not limited to a curriculum.
