INTRODUCTION
As Unitarian Universalists, we believe that the process of religious education (different from traditional Sunday school) is a lifelong quest to answer fundamental questions asked by all people:
  • Why am I here?
  • How should I conduct my life?
  • What is right or wrong?
We do not offer easy, set answers to these questions. Instead, we will help you guide your child in beginning his or her search for truth, value, and spirituality within a Unitarian Universalist context.

From June 20 through September 5, there will be no Religious Education programming. Pre-K through age 12 children, and youth, will remain in the service with their family. Families with young children are encouraged to bring along quiet toys, and the ushers will have some materials available for quiet activity. If there are a number of restless children, some parents may decide to offer an impromptu activity.

The Nursery for infants through 2-yrs-old will continue to be staffed throughout the summer. Our full RE program will resume on September 19th.

OUR MISSION
The purpose of the Davies Memorial Unitarian Universalist Church Religious Education Program is to provide a religious and moral environment in which to encourage development of personal beliefs and values, acceptance of self and others, and a sense of belonging to the church community. The Religious Education Committee has developed the following goals for the children participating in the program:
  • develop respect for one's self, others and divergent ideas
  • become responsible for one's self
  • identify themselves as members of the Unitarian Universalist religion
  • become aware of other religions
  • recognize they have the support of a caring church community and that they are a force for justice and love in this community and the larger world community.

We are also concerned with safety by having volunteers working in pairs, providing training, and having windows in each classroom to the hall which is monitored.

This program varies from year to year with a 3-4-yr. cycle. During our World Religions cycle, we explore history and development of different faith traditions. Participants plan their own program by choosing which religious groups to learn about, visit and relate to their own growing faith. Includes historical resources and tips for hosting guests from different faiths, visiting other faiths, creating worship experiences and more. back to top

Youth Youth (8th-12th Graders)
Our program is designed to empower our youth to become responsible young adults by respecting them, listening to their ideas, and encouraging them to embrace the challenges of life. Various resources may be used by the teacher, but the sessions are not limited to a curriculum.
