Sun Feb 5 - 10:30 am - Living With Loss -
Rev. Bruce Marshall
- To be human
is to experience loss. We lose parents, family, friends, public
figures who had always been with us. We lose places when we move
to different homes, different communities. We lose jobs, we lose
dreams, we lose physical capacities, we lose hair. Hence, a key
challenge of life involves learning to live with the losses that
life deals us. In this sermon, I would like to consider loss and
how we might make our way through.

Sun Feb 12 - 10:30 am - UU Polity Series: Social Justice -
Rev.
Bruce Marshall In my Unitarian Universalist polity series this
year, I have considered how we as UUs go about basic activities
of the church. In this sermon I'll turn to attention to social
justice: the church's involvement in work to create a better
society. Specifically, I'll consider the liberal religious
vision of a better world and how we have sought to realize it.

Sun Feb 19 - 12 noon, Immigration Discussion. In our first
meeting (December 4th) on the Immigration issue here at DMUUC,
we discussed the UUA common read book by Margaret Regan, The
Death of Josseline: Immigration Stories from the Arizona
Borderlands. Mike Papantones, who led the discussion, reported
that "the group discussed the migrant's experience from multiple
perspectives. Out of the complexity of this issue came the
realization that Americans have glamorized their past and have
treated their future negatively when it comes to immigration.
Our focus is to provide some realism so that it can assist us in
implementing our liberal religious values."
You can still get involved, and copies of the book are available
for loan from a number of those attending the initial meeting.
Just ask Mike Papantones 301-449-3053 or Liz Echols

Sun Feb 26 - 10:30 am Canvass Sunday: A Mission for the Future -
Rev. Bruce
Marshall - This is my third canvass sermon at Davies. In my
first year, I considered the question, "What if we weren't
here?" Last year my topic was "Infrastructure," that is, how
contributions support the structure that is Davies. This year I
would like to turn attention to the future and address mission.
In contributing to Davies-our time, our talents, and our
resources-we help continue this congregation's presence, but we
also contribute it its ongoing mission. What might a mission for
the future look like? A Congregational Meeting follows the
service.
