Dialog on Race and Ethnicity A discussion started by UUA consultant, Paula Jones from All Souls Church in DC, now being led by Chris Bell. "We dig deep and explore, discovering things we may not have known about ourselves. If racism–anti-racism is a continuum, where are you? Are you comfortable there, or would you like to change? Is the world comfortable where you are? Come and explore your inner feelings." This discussion is open to the public to discuss the problems of racism and segregation on the 2nd Fri. of most months (check the calendar). PLEASE JOIN US! This is an important part of our anti-racism and multiculturalism efforts. We've seen some videos and read articles to get us started in our dialogue. References (books, articles, links to other web sites and more) are available on this web page. We're now focusing on current events and historic figures. Please join our email list, which will send automated reminders about our meeting dates and changes will be posted there as well as updates of our resource list and upcoming topics. We use these principles to guide us, which includes justice, equity and compassion in human relations. |

We are presently using the following definitions in our discussion.: Racism: 1) racial prejudice or discrimination (from Merriam Webster) 2) Race Prejudice + Systemic and Institutional Misuse/Abuse of Power (from the Anti-Racism Committee of the Liberal Religious Educators Association) Non-Racism: Not being racist in our actions Anti-Racism: Going beyond non-racism to actively opposing racism and working toward a non-racist community, country, and world Reparations: the act of making amends, offering expiation, or giving satisfaction for a wrong or injury; something done or given as amends or satisfaction [by society, not individuals and not necessarily or primarily monetary] (from #2 in Merriam Webster) Links to resources about Racism and Anti-Racism.
