April 1954

Organizational meeting

September 1954  Southeast Unitarian Center held its first worship service at Suitland Community Hall in Suitland, MD
October 1956

Rev. Dr. A. Powell Davies presided at All Souls in Washington, D. C. Services held at Anacostia Masonic Temple on Minnesota Ave., S. E.

September 1957 Dr. Davies died suddenly.
January 1958 

Davies Memorial Unitarian Church incorporated under laws of state of Maryland

Rev. Ralph Stutzman designated Acting Minister at All Souls. 

Fall 1958

Services held at Friendship House near Capital Hill

August 1959 

Rev. James P. Wilkes called to pulpit at DMUC.

March 1960

Six acres of land purchased on Temple Hill Road in Camp Springs, MD

Summer 1960 

Congregation moved to Seventh-Day Adventist Church in S.E.

1961  Rev. Wilkes accepted call to Albuquerque
September 1962 Rev. Kenneth K. Marshall called to Davies
Spring 1963 Building Committee elected
September 1964

Congregation moved to Suitland Elem. School plus four locations for School of Religion

January 1965 Architect’s plan accepted
October 1965 Cornerstone laid
July 1966   First service conducted in new building
October 16, 1966  Building dedicated
January 1967 Large RE led to need for two services
September 1967 - July 1969  Cooperative nursery occupies building
March 1968 Women’s Alliance formed
 June 1968 Rev. Marshall resigned
December 1968 Rev. John Corrado called
January 26, 1968 Service of Ordination and Installation of John Corrado held at DMUC
1968 – 69  Pat Hess and Shirley Hall are DRE’s
1969 – 70  Shirley Hall continues as DRE
1970  Grand piano purchased
1970 – 71  Arlene Franchini is DRE
1971 – 72   Bonnie Shields is DRE
1972  Davies Theatre Workshop formed
1972 – 76 Carolyn Dowdle is RE Administrator
End of 73 RE down; End of two services
January 1975 Clara Loring resigns as Administrative Assistant
May 1976

John Corrado left for a church in Albany, NY

1976 – 78   Marilyn Schwartz is DRE
August 1977

Rev. Fred A. LeShane began his ministry

1978 – 80  Betty Jo Middleton is DRE
April 1979  Gala 25th Anniversary celebration
May 24, 1980 

Ordination of Rev. Kendyl Louise Rauen Gibbons held at her home church, DMUC

Spring 1980 – 85 Julie Mummert is DRE
Summer 1981 Outside chapel built
June 1983  Fred LeShane resigned
1983 – 84 Rev. Richard Woodman is Interim Minister
Fall 1984

Rev. Sydney Wilde-Nugent becomes Minister

1986 – 88

Beth Graham-Lewis is DRE and Board doubles previous DRE wages

February 1987 Mary Oyler hired as Choir Director
October 1988 Kit Chan hired as Choir Director
1989 – 91 Jill Norris is DRE
1990 – 92  Rev. Larry McGinty is Interim Minister
June 1991 Jill Jones becomes Administrative Assist.
1991 – 95 Joyce Dowling is DRE
August 1992

Rev. Donald Cameron-Kragt becomes Minister

January 29, 1995

Congregation approves addition of Universalist to church name

April 4, 1995 

State approved name change to Davies Memorial Unitarian Universalist Church

September 1996 Dixon Redditt hired as Choir Director
August 1998 Dawn Star Borchelt becomes DRE
Fall 2003 John Crestwell begins Internship
January 2004 

John Crestwell appointed Director of Outreach to initiate PR for growth
