Universalist Church (DMUUC) has several email lists which you are invited
to join if you live in the DC, Prince George's or Charles County area
or are planning to move here and have any involvement or wish to become involved with or learn more about this church. To join, click on the appropriate link to
join one or more lists and send us some information about yourself - your
name & why you'd like to join the list (e.g. moving into the area,
recently visited the church, etc.); also you can include where you live, anything related to your relationship with UUism or the church. If you're wanting to join a discussion list, let us know if you'd like your introductory message to be posted to the list. All conversation lists use the Unitarian Universalist (UU) principles as a guideline to communication. If you're a newcomer and just want to learn more about Unitarian Universalism in general, try this list. Other UU email lists are also mentioned below. We encourage all of our friends and members to join the announcement-only listserv (dmuuc-l), which pertains only to church-related business (event reminders, emergencies, etc. and our monthly nUUsletter) and is only postable by two or three people at this time. It's low volume (just a couple of messages per week on average or less). Click here to join. There are 2 other announcement-only email lists just for their programs (particularly for music-lovers in the Maryland-DC area - need not be a member or friend of this church). The forms to subscribe are on the bottom of their home pages: Cafe Florian and Davies Concert Series (The choir also has a list, contact Denise to join.) The conversation list (dmuuc-chat) is for members and friends only, but once subscribed anyone can post just about anything. It's a good way to ask questions and to find out about the interests of our fellow members and friends. Good for asking questions related to UU principles, but also include philosophy and religion as popular topics, but you can ask about area services, Prince George's or Charles Co & Maryland politics & laws, etc. Some UUA announcements are occasionally sent to the list as well. The post volume is less than one per day on average, though it could change. Click here to join. The debate list (dmuuc-debate) is also for members and friends only (with an occasional friend of a member) and postable by all subscribers, but the conversation is more intense and contains more controvercial topics (some subscribers jokingly refer to it as the "brawl" list). This is a good list for people who are trying to hone their skills of critical thinking and debating, but not good for someone who is sensitive about criticism. This is not a list for proselylitizing your beliefs, but good for discussing your beliefs (religious or political) if you're willing to read critical feedback about it. We still have the goal of communicating respectfully in this forum. This list has the fewest subscribers, but the most posts. Click here to join. ADORE (A discussion on race and ethnicity) is a monthly discussion group. We have an email list to follow-up in between meetings. If you've attended ADORE, would like to attend ADORE, aren't able to attend live meeting, AND are a member or have attended our church, you are welcome to join this list, which is hosted at YahooGroups. There are files and links for sharing information about racism and related issues on that site. In the future, we may open it up to a larger community. Click to join. The Young Adult Group has their own YahooGroup, which you're welcome to join if you've ever been involved in our church or plan to and are age 18 - 35 (there are a couple of special friends/advisors on the list who are older). Click to join. The Endowment Committee has a list if you'd like to ask them questions about the Endowment. They also give advice about investing to our church members. Subscribe to dmuuc-endowment. Send a question or comment to the Endowment Committee. The Social Action Committee has a YahooGroup which is not just for the committee, but for any member or friend interested in social justice issues (see more about our committee here). Click to join. We also host the Camp Springs Community Email List which is for information about our geographical community - no interest in this church is needed to join it. Other local lists can be found on other sites for Accokeek, the Brandywine area, and Prince George's County. To learn more about UUism in general or if you have specific interests in UUism within our church (such as a member of a committee) or a support-type group for minority concerns for which we do not have a formal group (such as Conservatives, Homeschooling) or national newsletters (Advocacy, Books, Education, Bi/Gay/Intersex/Lesbian/Trans/Etc), you can learn more from the hundreds of lists available from the UUA, the national association with which this church is affiliated. Among them are JPD lists (Joseph Priestley District, the district that includes Maryland); the main one is here - lay leaders are encouraged to subscribe to stay informed about our UUA district. And for newcomers to Unitarian Universalism, try this list. If you didn't join one of ours this time, please come back to join them (at least dmuuc-l) as soon as you start attending the church.
