Dawn Star Borchelt, Credentialed Religious Educator

Dawn Star Borchelt has been a part of the staff at DawnDavies since 1998 and has obtained the title of Credentialed Religious Educator. She works with the Religious Education committee to provide leadership and oversight of the Religious Education program for children and youth and to encourage total family and church participation in intergenerational events and activities. She participates in our worship services regularly and works with our ministers to develop Religious Education programming for adults.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Dawn was home schooled through high school and graduated from St. John's College in Annapolis. She is a third-generation Unitarian Universalist, and participated actively in church life as a child and teenager. She lives in Accokeek, Maryland with her husband (Matt), dog, their son, Wolfgang, and new baby, Robin Wilde.

During her time here, Dawn has built relationships of trust with the staff, members, friends, children, and youth of the church. She works with us to empower our personal, organizational, and cultural transformation. She is an institutionalist (in the sense of creating and nurturing healthy organizations and institutions), and a prophet (in the sense of speaking truth to power, with love.)

Dawn has pursued a wide variety of professional development and denominational service opportunities. She currently serves as an At-Large Member of the Joseph Priestley District Board of Directors, and is an active member of the Greater Washington Association Religious Education Council and the Liberal Religious Educators Association. Dawn is pursuing a Level 2 Religious Educator Credential through the Unitarian Universalist Association and has received Renaissance Recognition (2001). She is a trained leader of the Curriculum and UU Identity Renaissance Modules and a graduate of the Leadership School for Religious Educators (2001).

Dawn is the co-author of Walking Between the Worlds: A Bridging Program (2004) [UUA bookstore], a contributing editor of the Final Report of the Young Adult Ministries Task Force to the Board of the JPD of the UUA (2001) [report on pdf], a contributor to TogetherTime: A Sourcebook of Ideas for Intergenerational Worship (2001), and the author of A Supplement for use with Keepers of the Earth in Unitarian Universalist Religious Education Programs (2001).
